Location

Rhumb holds 9 tenements, 3 under application and 6 granted (as at Jan 23) near Laura, 350km northwest of Cairns and 100km by road west of Cooktown.

Access to the tenures is via the Captain Cook Highway and the Peninsular Development Road, sealed highway generally unaffected as far as Laura by flooding during the wet. North of Laura, the Peninsular Development Rd is being progressively sealed. The major roads through the tenement areas are formed two-lane all-weather surfaces that are regularly maintained.

The tenement area is generally light to medium treed savannah country relatively accessible by vehicle. In the southern portion of the tenement areas, the desiccated sandstone forms sheer escarpments up to 200m high dropping into the creek lines.

The tenement area is dissected by the perennial Palmer, Kennedy, St Georges and Little Laura Rivers. The other waterways tend to be seasonal with significant flows during the wet season. The wet season, which generally lasts from mid-December till early March, in good seasons will dump more that 200mm of rain in the region which results in the roads being closed for up to a week at low level crossings and floodways on the main roads and on the secondary roads. Additionally, movement on station roads and off-road is almost impossible unless cross terrain vehicles are used.

Tenements

Rhumb has 6 exploration permits granted and three under application for a total of over 2300 square kilometres.
